Note by Note with Mikayla
Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 19, 2026 · Last updated: September 19, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Note by Note with Mikayla (“the Studio,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use notebynote.com and related pages, contact us by phone, text, or email, request a first lesson, or enroll a student. We are a private piano studio operating in New Jersey.
This website is an information and inquiry site. We do not process credit or debit cards on this website. If you pay tuition by Venmo, Venmo’s own privacy policy applies to that payment.
1. Who we are
Note by Note with Mikayla is a New Jersey sole proprietorship offering private piano instruction (30-minute and 1-hour classes for all ages). For privacy questions, write to hello@notebynote.com or call or text 516-503-8084.
This Policy covers information we control. It does not cover Instagram, Facebook, Venmo, or other sites we may link to.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to respond to you, schedule lessons, teach, and run the studio.
From you (usually a parent or adult student)
- Parent or guardian name, email address, and phone number
- Student first and last name, age, and experience level
- Preferred class length (30 minutes or 1 hour), day, and time window
- Messages you send us by form, email, text, or voicemail
- Payment records we keep ourselves (amount, date, method such as Venmo, check, or cash)—not your bank password or full card number, which we do not collect on this site
Student media
If you give consent, we may collect photographs or video of a student in the studio for teaching, progress, or (only with that consent) the website or social accounts. See Section 6.
Technical information
Our website host (Vercel) and the services that load fonts and icons may receive your IP address, browser type, device type, pages requested, and timestamps. We do not run a separate advertising or analytics pixel on this site today.
We do not require an account, and we do not buy mailing lists.
3. Children under 13 (COPPA)
Many of our students are children. This website is directed to parents and adult students, not to children acting on their own.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 through this website except from that child’s parent or legal guardian. The first lesson form is meant to be completed by a parent or guardian. By submitting it, you represent that you are the student’s parent or legal guardian (or the student and at least 18), and you consent to our collecting the student’s name, age, and lesson preferences for the purposes in this Policy.
We do not condition a child’s participation on providing more information than we need for a first lesson or enrollment. We do not sell children’s personal information. We do not use children’s information for targeted advertising.
If you believe we have collected a child’s information other than from a parent or guardian, email hello@notebynote.com. We will delete it, or retain only what the law requires us to keep, promptly after we verify the request.
A parent may review, correct, or request deletion of their child’s information, and may refuse further collection, by contacting us as described in Section 10.
4. How we use information
- To answer inquiries and schedule or confirm a first lesson or ongoing lessons
- To communicate about lessons, makeups, recitals, tuition, and studio policies (including by phone, text, or email)
- To teach, track progress, and keep ordinary studio records
- To display student media, but only with the consent described in Section 6
- To protect the safety of students, families, and the instructor, and to enforce our Terms of Service
- To comply with law, tax, and bookkeeping requirements, and to defend legal claims
We do not use your information to train third-party advertising models, and we do not sell it.
5. How we share information
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We share information only as follows:
- Service providers that host or display this site (currently Vercel) and that deliver fonts, icons, or CSS (currently Google Fonts, Iconify, and the Tailwind CSS CDN). They process technical data to serve the pages.
- Payment apps you choose (for example Venmo), if you pay that way. We do not receive your Venmo login.
- Professional advisors (accountant, insurer, or attorney) under confidentiality, if needed to operate or defend the studio.
- Legal if we are required by law, court order, or a good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to protect a person from serious harm.
If we ever use a new processor that materially changes this picture, we will update this Policy.
6. Student photographs and video
This website currently includes lesson photographs and video. We use a student’s identifiable image or voice on the website, in social posts, or in printed studio materials only with parent or guardian consent (or the student’s consent if 18 or older).
You may withdraw consent for future use at any time by emailing hello@notebynote.com. We will stop new uses. We may not be able to recall copies already printed, shared by others, or cached by search engines or social platforms, but we will remove the material from pages we control within a reasonable time.
Lesson recordings made only for teaching the student, and not published, are treated as student education records of the studio and are not posted publicly.
7. Cookies and similar technology
We do not set a first-party advertising cookie. The host and third-party libraries named above may set cookies or local storage that are strictly useful to deliver the page (for example, to cache a font). Your browser can block cookies; the site may still function. See our Cookie Policy for the current list of services that may set cookies or receive technical data.
We do not currently honor a separate “do not sell” signal because we do not sell personal information. If we add analytics or advertising later, we will update this Policy and the Cookie Policy before we do so.
8. How long we keep information
- First lesson inquiries that do not enroll: up to 24 months, unless you ask us to delete sooner.
- Enrolled students: for the enrollment and a reasonable period afterward so we can re-enroll, handle makeups, and answer questions, then as long as tax, insurance, or legal recordkeeping reasonably requires (often several years for payment records).
- Published media: until you withdraw consent or we no longer use the piece.
- Server logs: according to our host’s default log rotation, typically a matter of days or weeks.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to a small studio (limited access to student records, reputable hosting with HTTPS, and no card numbers stored on this website). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please use a unique password on Venmo and do not send full card numbers by email or text.
10. Your choices and requests
You may email hello@notebynote.com or text 516-503-8084 to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you or your child
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion, subject to records we must keep for tax, safety, or legal reasons
- Withdraw consent for future student media
- Ask us to stop marketing texts or emails
For texts: reply STOP to opt out of non-transactional studio texts. You may still receive a message about a lesson already on the calendar. For emails, use the address above and ask to be removed from studio updates.
We will need to verify that you are the parent, student, or authorized requester before we fulfill a request about a child’s information. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these choices.
11. New Jersey residents
New Jersey’s consumer data privacy statute (the New Jersey Data Privacy Act) applies to businesses that meet large processing or data-sale thresholds. A studio of our size typically does not meet those thresholds, and we do not sell personal data. Even so, we will honor the access, correction, and deletion requests in Section 10 for New Jersey residents as a matter of studio policy.
Nothing in this Policy is meant to limit a right you have under New Jersey or federal law, including COPPA and the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act.
12. Changes
We may update this Policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. If we make a material change in how we use student or parent information (for example, adding online card checkout or advertising cookies), we will post the revised Policy and, where we have your email or number, notify you before the new use begins.
